TOADFACE by ERB20 TOADFACE by ERB20
WILD

Common Toad Bufo bufo
Essex, UK.

I'm not sure why he had a little red spot on his head...anyone have any ideas?

He was just sat in the path as we were walking, puffing himself up to try and scare us away. With great courage I managed to take this shot before he saw me off!

Please don't be offended if I don't personally say thank you for you favouriting my work, I'm afraid I just don't have time anymore due to Uni work increasing. I usually give out llamas so watch out for those and I'll always respond to comments :D

absolutely amazing shot! the focus, the details, the DoF, everything is great!

the red spot on the head screams mark/recapture to me, when scientists put a mark, often paint, on their species of interest, release them and then at a later date recapture as many as they can to see how many are alive and where they've moved to. Its really important in calculating death rates and for looking at population dynamics =)

the paint's not cruel, and is a definate improvement over past methods of marking amphibians (cut off a toe! :noes: )

but I may be wrong :giggle:

:aww: thank you!

Ahhh so it could be he's marked for research? Interesting. Yes that's a definite improvement over the old method of marking them!! Interesting to hear though...scientists are cruel :/

Haha yeah. Science is better now at being nicer to things but I suppose that's how we learn...from our mistakes.

I'm sure you're the most lovely scientist there is!
